How Does the Power Up Stabilizer Work?
By providing a point of stability and biomechanical alignment for one or both hands and arms, the Power Up Stabilizer handles help the client achieve greater accuracy during reach, grasp and touch activities. The client can also improve fine motor skills and head control in such functional activities such as eating, writing, reading and augmentative communication devices. Also, when used in a therapeutic setting, the Power Up Stabilizer provides an “extra set of hands” for the therapist while working on visual tracking, reaching, grasping and numerous other goals.
How can the Power Up Stabilizer be attached?
With the appropriate attachments and therapist input, the stabilizer comes equipped with a clamp that attaches to most table tops, trays and desks. Adaptors are available for attachment to some wheelchairs, standers and walkers.
Where can the Power Up Stabilizer be used?
The stabilizers can be used at home, therapy, school, during play or out in the community.
When is the forearm support needed?
The forearm support is needed as an additional support for those who may have not have the necessary motor control to independently maintain their grip on the handle.
Are the affects of the Power Up Stabilizer sustainable over the course of time?
Yes. When used properly and consistently, children who use the Power Up stabilizer show increases in independent muscle control. In fact some children, after several years of use have been able to wean off of using the stabilizers because they can independently control their muscles. Marquette U. is currently studying that effect. See research page.
